The Ohio State basketball team is off to a terrific start but other Big Ten teams are as well. Here are the power rankings as conference play is now underway.

The Big Ten Conference play began this past week with some big early season matchups that could affect the standings at the end of the season. Many teams shone bright in their first games and that’s reflected in this weeks edition of the Big Ten power rankings.

10 teams have already won at least 6 games so far and 12 have at least 5 victories. First let’s take a look at how the Ohio State basketball team fared.

The Buckeyes were the picture of how to have an up and down week as they lost a game early in the week and then won their first conference. Many thought Ohio State could have played much better and put a beat down on Minnesota Sunday and that’s reflected in the rankings.

Nevertheless, the Buckeyes are 7-1 on the season and ranked 19th in the nation. Better than any fan could have expected coming into the season.

Freshman Luther Mohammed went out against Syracuse with a dislocated shoulder. Mohammed was averaging the 2nd most minutes on the team and 8.9 points per game before the injury.

His absence didn’t seem to affect the Buckeyes in the game against the Gophers. But it will be interesting to see when he returns to the lineup how it will affect the Buckeyes down the road.
