3 quarterbacks in Heisman race heading into Championship Weekend
After a highly anticipated rivalry weekend, the Heisman race has come down to a three-man race. Tua Tagovailoa, Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins have separated themselves from the pack.
In contention throughout most of the season, Will Grier and Gardner Minshew will most likely be invited to New York City. However, they have taken themselves out of consideration due to a poor performance by Minshew and a pair of losses by both Washington State and West Virginia.
On November 26th, Heisman voting opened. There is no rhyme or reason why electors should be voting this week leading up to championship weekend. In my opinion, the majority of first place votes could be decided based upon conference championship performances.
After dominating “Heisman” performances during Rivalry Week, these three quarterbacks are arguably heading into their conference championships in hopes to clinch the Heisman Trophy.
Dwayne Haskins:
Haskins had the most Heisman like performance of the weekend in a beat down against “That Team Up North”. He passed for 396 yards with 6 touchdowns against the Wolverines #1 ranked defense in the country.
Haskins leads the country in passing touchdowns with 42 and has eight games with at least 300 passing yards, including four performances of 400 plus yards. The Buckeyes QB has been crushing both school and Big Ten records all season long.
He set the Big Ten record for passing touchdowns passing Drew Brees’ record from 1998. If Haskins destroys the Northwestern defense like how he dismantled Michigan’s, expect him to receive first place votes for the Heisman.
