Even defeating the Michigan State Spartans by 20 points on the road wasn’t enough to move the Ohio State football team up a spot in the CFP rankings.

When the College Football Playoff rankings came out yesterday Ohio State was still ranked No. 10. If a 20 point victory on the road versus a ranked team won’t move the Buckeyes up in the rankings what will?

It may be the case the Committee has ruled out Ohio State as a playoff contender already.

The top 5 teams, Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan and Georgia all took care of business on Saturday. But at least a couple of teams ranked 6-9 weren’t all that impressive.

No. 9 West Virginia defeated TCU soundly 47-10 but it’s doubtful you could make a compelling argument any of the other three teams had a more impressive win than the Ohio State victory over Michigan State.

No. 6 Oklahoma barely slipped by Oklahoma State 48-47. I know it was an in-state rivalry game but the Cowboys were unranked and the Sooners were at home.

No. 7 ranked LSU Tigers were coming off their second loss of the season (29-0 to Alabama) and defeated Arkansas 24-17. Seriously, the Razorbacks are 0-6 in the SEC and 2-8 overall. The Tigers didn’t drop one spot in the rankings.

No. 8 Washington had a nice win over Colorado (2-5 in the Pac 12 and 5-5 overall) but I don’t think that matches up with the Ohio State victory at East Lansing.

Don’t the CFP Committee members often say they evaluate teams week by week?

It would appear with the way the Committee has ranked the top ten teams the last two weeks there is no such thing as a bad loss in the SEC and most victories are considered good wins. Unless of course it’s against a Big Ten team.

Whatever the case, here are the top 25 teams in this week’s CFP rankings:

Alabama

Clemson

Notre Dame

Michigan

Georgia

Oklahoma

LSU

Washington State

West Virginia

There you have it, the CFP top 25 for Week 12. It’s difficult to say whether the Committee still views Ohio State as a contender to make the College Football Playoff or not. Whatever the case, it will be an uphill battle for the Buckeyes to make the Final Four.
