Another lackluster performance by the Ohio State football team has their confidence, Big Ten title hopes and playoff chances hanging on by a thread.

An eventful weekend in college football as Alabama appears to be in a class of their own, Michigan dominated Penn State at home, the Ohio State football team still looked shaky against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and more. Let’s take a dive into these topics and beyond in this week’s edition of 4th & Short.

Q: What do you think of [Ohio State’s] playoff chances?

A: Ohio State’s playoff chances are alive, but rest in the hands of their defense. As it stands right now, the Buckeyes appear to be on the far outside looking in judging by their on the field performances. However, mathematically, Ohio State is very much in play and will likely climb a spot or two tonight in the Selection Committee’s second edition of their rankings.

The Buckeyes can still earn two quality wins as well as a potential third in the Big Ten Championship Game which would likely be the easiest of the three games should they get to Indianapolis.

Ohio State heads to East Lansing this Saturday to take on Michigan State in a game that will likely be an absolute dogfight. Surviving another potential upset bid from a Mark Dantonio coached team is paramount for the Buckeyes if they wish to have a shot at the playoff.

Moreover, in less than three weeks, a motivated and hot Michigan team will make the trip to Columbus with everything on the line.
