The Ohio State football team suffered a bad loss to the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday and dropped out of the top 10 this week.

Week 9 of the college football season is done and it was a rough one for Ohio State football fans. However, there were many good moments for other teams in the country. With that said it’s time for me to rank the top college football teams in the nation.

There were plenty of big wins for teams in the hunt for a playoff bid as well as big upsets. The top team on this list continued their rampage upon college football and there are surprises up and down the list. Lets get into this week’s rankings.

11. Ohio State

Rank Last Week: 2

Week 9 Result: Loss @ Purdue 49-20

Upcoming Week: Bye

I made this week a top 11 ranking so I had an excuse to talk about the debacle that took place in West Lafayette this past Saturday.

The Buckeyes won the possession battle, outgained the Boilermakers in total yards, and were able to get seven more first downs. Yet they still were blown out by a whopping 29 points. What went wrong?

The rushing game for the Buckeyes has been lackluster this season but it was on a new level of bad on Saturday. Dwayne Haskins passed for an Ohio State single game record 73 times but the Buckeyes were out gained on the ground 161-76 by Purdue.

It is obvious to point towards the offensive line for this lack of production and they have a lot to do with it. But it seemed to me that J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber weren’t running as hard as they did last year and even in previous weeks. The team just seems down as a whole.

Hopefully getting a bye week will change the Buckeyes’ fortunes.
