After a chaotic week 7 in college football with several upsets and a key injury, the race for the Heisman Trophy is really getting interesting.

Conference races are heating up and the race for the Heisman is too. Every season at this point players separate themselves from the pack and become leading contenders to win the prestigious Trophy.

Their performances each game can move those players up and down in the rankings so I will look at where the contenders stand each week.

Heading into week 8, here are the top five Heisman Trophy contenders:

5. McKenzie Milton

After a near upset against Memphis, junior QB McKenzie Milton made a Heisman type play hurdling Tiger defenders in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Knights. Milton was 17 for 29 for 296 yards and a touchdown to extend the nation’s longest winning streak to 19 games.

Through the first 7 games of the season, Milton has 1,797 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 204 yards and 6 scores.

The #10 ranked Knights have two tough tests ahead of them, #21 South Florida and #20 Cincinnati. These games will give Milton the opportunity to prove himself to the Heisman voters.
