Ohio State Football: Urban Meyer- The Man, The Myth, The Legend
By Samuel Baum
Whether it has been on or off the field, the past several months has been a trying time for all of Buckeye Nation and the Ohio State football team. Unfortunately through it all, Urban Meyer has taken the fall on behalf of the University to make sure the powers that be don’t appear to condone abuse in any form.
This is all very sad considering that Urban Meyer is the face of the biggest name and sadly the biggest men have to take the biggest punishments.
Unfortunately, through it all so much of what the media has done is to misconstrue the truth about Urban Meyer, which in turn has misled the average person across America. Whether it’s been on Twitter or a news source, we have heard so many people take jabs at Urban Meyer. Whether it has been in the form of interviews or replies on Twitter, many have totally misrepresented the man Urban Meyer is.
At the end of the day, Urban Meyer is bigger than football, through the thick and thin the bad news and the good news, he has shown class and professionalism in every aspect of his life. While it seems that everyone only wants to state what Urban has done wrong it is important to recognize the good he has done.
Let’s be clear, Urban Meyer was suspended for caring too much. He gave Coach Smith too many opportunities because he saw the good in him. And when Smith did violate rules he turned to his authorities and reported what he knew. In every step of the process, Urban was always truthful and did the right thing.
What is sad is the fact that the average person loves to hate Ohio State, but that is only natural when the Buckeyes are one of the best teams every year. Another fact is that the average person is uneducated when it comes to the recent news.
All everyone hears is Urban Meyer’s name and domestic abuse and they immediately jump to conclusions. People are unwilling to seek the truth for their own and much rather believe what they want to hear. It is truly a sad day when people want a good man to fall, and not only take shots at him but his family and friends.
When one thinks of Urban Meyer you think of three things, the man, the myth and the legend. Sadly there are a lot of myths out there, but in the end he will be recognized as a legend when everything is said and done.
At the end of the day Urban Meyer is more than a coach. Although he is renowned for his coaching abilities there is so much that he has done off the field that has made a difference in countless individuals lives for the better. Urban is simply much bigger than football.
