Ohio State Football: 5 Burning Questions On Kickoff Eve
By Chris Bruns
It’s hard to believe football season is finally here. After a drama-filled summer, the Buckeyes kick off against Oregon State in the ‘shoe on Saturday. What questions will we hope to have answered after tomorrow’s game?
With all the controversy surrounding the Ohio State football team this offseason, it feels good to finally focus on the actual play on the field now that the games are about to begin. Urban Meyer’s suspension meant that every other Ohio State story took a back seat — and with practices mostly closed to the media, fans and experts alike are more in the dark about this OSU team than ever.
With kickoff right around the corner, what are some unanswered questions we’ll hope to learn the answers to come game time?
Is Dwayne Haskins the real deal?
We’ve all heard the hype about Haskins. He supposedly tore it up during practices, making all the throws that the critics complained JT Barrett couldn’t make.
Johnnie Dixon only fanned the flames when the receivers met with the media this week.
“He makes some of those throws that are just crazy,” he said, as reported in The Lantern. “The guy, he has the talent. He’s just ready to unleash it .”
Parris Campbell lauded Haskins’ improved leadership and command of the huddle. We saw Haskins taking strides to improve his game, working out with Deshaun Watson in the offseason. We know Ryan Day has all the faith in the world in his young QB.
But really, we don’t know anything.
Haskins has yet to start a game in a Buckeyes uniform. He’s impressed in practice, and in spot duty. Yet without a single start he’s already built a legend, based largely off of word of mouth — as well as that impressive performance in The Game in which he almost single-handedly pulled a victory from the jaws of defeat.
But we should find out a lot more about whether we can all safely board the Dwayne Train after tomorrow.
Speaking of the offense…
