Ohio State Football: Seven captains named for 2018 season
By Chris Bruns
Captains for the Ohio State football team have been named. With all this team has already gone through, their leadership could very well be tested.
Much has been made of the maturity and leadership in the wide receiver room this year and it’s clear the rest of the team has noticed. Parris Campbell, Johnny Dixon, and Terry McLaurin were all voted captains.
That leadership abilty will certainly help Zone 6 weather the loss if its former coach under scandalous circumstances. The other offensive captain is tackle Isaiah Prince.
The three defensive captains come as no surprise. The Buckeyes simply selected the best player at each of the three layers of defense.
DE Nick Bosa is widely regarded as the best player on the team regardless of position; Tuf Borland had a strong year at middle linebacker and has earned even more respect with his grueling comeback from an achilles injury; and Jordan Fuller is set for stardom at the safety position.
Interim head coach Ryan Day announced this year’s team captains at practice on Saturday. The school released a video of the event on Twitter.
OSU also released a video of OL coach Greg Studrawa calling Prince’s parents to inform them that their son had been named a captain at The Ohio State University.
It certainly would have shocked many OSU fans two years ago to hear that OT Isaiah Prince would be named a captain.
Prince had a notoriously disastrous game in a road loss at Penn State that cost the team a shot at the Big Ten title. He was also graded one of the worst pass blockers in the country that season.
But after a strong bounce-back campaign in 2017, Prince has become one of the leaders of the offensive line, and is primed for a big year.
With the turmoil and scrutiny surrounding the program, more might be expected of these captains than any others in OSU’s history. If their leadership is sound, it could be a big year for the Bucks.
