The Buckeyes are loaded with five-star cornerbacks. First let’s take a look at the guy Nick Saban recruited in 2015 when he was ranked the No. 20 player in the country.

Kendall Sheffield: Evidently the cornerback didn’t appreciate being red-shirted his freshman year at Alabama so he transferred to Blinn College. Sheffield then joined the 2017 Ohio State recruiting class as the No. 1 JUCO corner. He performed well last season and I expect big things from Sheffield this season.

Jeffrey Okudah: Even though Okudah struggled some while getting his feet wet last year, as the season progressed he showed everyone why he was the No. 1 ranked corner in the 2017 recruiting class. This kid could become an All-American, and possibly soon.

Shaun Wade: Derailed by an injury situation last year Wade wasn’t able to make an impact as a freshman. However, he had a terrific spring and is ready to hit the ground running this season. By the way, Okudah was the only corner ranked higher than Wade in the 2017 class.

Tyreke Johnson: Although ranked the No. 2 safety in the 2018 recruiting class, Johnson will apparently start his Ohio State career at corner. With that being the case, the Buckeyes simply have an embarrassment of riches at the position.

Pointing out the former five-star recruits is in no way meant to diminish other Buckeyes who had a three or four star beside their name as a recruit. Many of those guys will be impactful players for Ohio State this season.

I just find it interesting that a coach like Urban Meyer who is known as an offensive coach has so many former elite recruits on board to disrupt the opposing team’s passing game.

There is no doubt when opposing quarterbacks face the players I have mentioned they will be seeing stars. Especially when the “Rushmen” get up close and personal with them.
