It appears the voters in the AP Preseason Poll believe the SEC is still the top conference in the country.

When the AP Preseason Poll came out earlier this week, it was no surprise the voters ranked Alabama and Ohio State as the two top teams in the nation, with the Crimson Tide taking the top spot. They should be considered the top two teams in the country, whichever order you choose to place them in the standings.

And It was almost a certainty a half-dozen or so SEC teams would be ranked in the AP Preseason Poll as well. That way the media pundits can talk about how difficult it is to maneuver through a daunting Southeastern Conference schedule, at least for a few weeks until the conference begins to underachieve once again.

Guess what, six SEC teams are ranked in the top 25. The other five teams are all ranked between 12 and 25. Here is a list of those Southeastern Conference teams and their rankings.

  • 13.  LSU
  • 15. Georgia
  • 17.  Florida
  • 25. Tennessee

You guys and gals who follow the SEC shouldn’t worry that only six teams are ranked in the AP Preseason Poll. One or more teams will probably be added to the top 25 in future weeks. After all, 40+ point victories against FBS teams early in the season are on the way.

Tennessee is a beautiful state, I get that. But the Vols only have a powerhouse football team every decade or two. I know, this will be the year they make their comeback. Just like last year, and the year before that, and…

I would take Northwestern over Tennessee myself, and possibly Iowa as well. The Hawkeyes win at least eight games every year and the Vols don’t. Speaking of Big Ten teams…
