9. The Boise Dynasty finds its way back into America’s heart

“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s this size of the fight in the dog.” The boys on blue turf were perhaps the most entertaining football team to watch in the 2006-2007 season, putting together trick play after trick play.

Boise State has been good ever since, and they know what college football fans want.  We want another outstanding season by the giant slayers which culminates in an exciting bowl win. Just like when the Broncos defeated the Oklahoma Sooners with a Statue of Liberty play which was one of the greatest games I have ever watched.

Along with that win, and the player’s proposal to his girlfriend Boise State following the game, it did something that doesn’t get enough credit. The Broncos made it impossible to not to root for them.

The whole country outside of Oklahoma was on their side during that Fiesta Bowl and they just may have a chance to put together a killer season like that again. They are ranked 26th going into the season, and I think they will crack the top about halfway through the season.

Don’t get me wrong, Western Michigan was a great story last year but I think everyone can agree we want our Broncos back, and I’ll explain why we just might get that.

Junior Quarterback Brett Rypien has very good talent around him and experienced players also. Sophomore running back Alexander Mattison has shown throughout the offseason that he can run like the nation’s top backs and he is going to do everything for his offense and special teams.

This kid can return punts, catch, run and even has played safety in team scrimmages. I look for him to lead the Mountain West in all-purpose yards and open up the passing game on a big way.

The Broncos skill positions are set, topping off the offense with two small and fast junior receivers. The only thing I am worried about is their line.

They don’t have a left tackle who has ever played a game of college football. Even though their number one LT was named Offensive player of the offseason, we have seen time and time again that unexperienced lineman is a recipe for disaster.

I hope the Broncos can prove to everyone they are once again a force to be reckoned with. And I can’t wait to see the probable Mountain West finale of Boise State-San Diego State.
