If the AP had only took the careers of the top two head coaches of a football program into consideration, Alabama would definitely be No. 1 on the list.

Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant was the most successful coach in college football history. And the success coach Nick Saban has enjoyed in his time as the head coach of the Crimson Tide is off the charts.

It’s the lack of success in between the time coach Bryant retired and coach Saban took over that dropped Alabama in the rankings.
