If these were rankings for the last 30 years, the University of Florida would be at or near the top of the list. However, the Gators weren’t a power in the SEC very often before that, or a team that was usually in the national rankings and a potential National champion.
That began to change in the 1980s but the Gators really got on a roll when Steve Spurrier returned to his alma mater in the 1990s and won a National championship. It continued through the Urban Meyer era when he won two National titles. Now Florida is one of the premier football schools in the nation.
