All-Decade Ohio State Football Dream Team (2005-2015)
By Billy George
Defensive End No. 2: Vernon Gholston (2006-07)
Another QB-pressuring defensive lineman, Vernon Gholston was a force to be reckoned with. One of a very few amount of Ohio State players to start in two consecutive national championship games (2006 and 2007) Gholston made a habit out of making big plays at Ohio State. In 2006 he earned Second-team All-Big Ten honors while starting 13 games, as he led the team with 18 tackles for loss, recorded 49 tackles overall, and was second on the team in sacks, recording 7.5 of them. During the 2007 season Gholston recorded 37 tackles (15.5 for a loss) and set a school record with 14.5 sacks. To this day he holds the Ohio State single-season sack record.
He was named an All-America by Pro Football Weekly in 2007 and was a First-team All-Big Ten selection.
