Nebraska

Since joining the Big Ten, the Cornhuskers have struggled to seriously compete for Big Ten titles.  Maybe 2016 will be different.

The Cornhuskers’ 6-7 record last year is a little misleading.  The seven losses were by a combined 31 points and they managed to beat Michigan State. They also lost to Purdue so there’s a lot to work to be done to climb to the top of the Big Ten West division.

We’ll figure out if Nebraska is improved on September 17 when it plays Oregon at home.  Head coach Mike Riley knows Oregon well since he coached against them for 14 seasons while he was at Oregon State.   If he can get Tommy Armstrong III to play more consistently, and the pass defense improves, the Cornhuskers could finally break through and win the Big Ten West this year.

The Buckeyes win this game comfortably at home, but it is still toward the top in rankings because it kicks off the November stretch run to win the Big Ten.
