What happens with the wide receivers in this class will be fascinating to follow over the next year. The Buckeyes sit in a good position with several of the top recruits in the country.

Trevon Grimes has been a name that most Buckeye fans have become very familiar with over the past couple years. He plays at St. Thomas Aquinas, a program that has been absolutely great to the Buckeyes. With Nick Bosa continuing the connection from Aquinas to Ohio State, Urban Meyer is going to be very hard to beat for Grimes’ service. Grimes has publicly stated that Ohio State is the leader in his recruitment.

Grimes is a 5 star recruit, and the 2nd ranked wide receiver in the class. At 6’4″ he is the prototype receiver that Zach Smith and Urban Meyer seemed to be targeting more and more of late. Barring an unforeseen fallout between the two sides, this one seems to be only a matter of when.

Donovan Peoples-Jones is the number one receiver in the 2017 class, and he comes from Detroit’s Cass Tech program. The Buckeyes have been recruiting him since he was a sophomore, and they have had some success at Cass Tech, pulling Damon Webb and Mike Weber away most recently.

As always with a kid from Cass Tech, Michigan and Michigan State are going to be tough to beat. 247′s crystal ball rankings currently have his recruitment split evenly between Ohio State and both Michigan programs.

Another name that is getting a lot of attention from Ohio State is Tyjon Lindsey, especially after his former teammate, Haskell Garrett, committed to the Buckeyes. Lindsey played with Garrett at Bishop Gorman, but is now transferring back to his home state of California. Lindsey is much smaller than the other receivers that Urban Meyer is recruiting. He is only 5’9″ but has blazing speed.

A very skilled return man, Lindsey could very well become one of the most dynamic players in the country.

USC and Oregon will be hard to compete with in his recruitment, but the 5th ranked receiver has continued to put Ohio State near the top of his list. With the addition of Garrett, who has become a good friend of Lindsey’s, maybe he can be the piece that pushes this recruitment in Ohio State’s favor.

One more name, and a name that could be an even better bet than Trevon Grimes, is Cleveland Heights’ Jaylen Harris. While he has not named a favorite in his recruitment, there are many who think this will be Ohio State’s to lose.

Harris is seeing his recruitment take off after a slow start initially. In the past month he has added offers from Miami and Georgia. He already holds an offer from Alabama, and the Tide will be a player in his recruitment for sure.

The 6’5″ receiver is currently  ranked as the 18th best in the class, but he could continue to move up the board as his recruitment gains steam.
