While the Buckeyes have some serious offensive talent on board, it is the defensive side that has elevated this class to an early top ranking. The defensive backfield alone has four players ranked in the top-10 at their position.

Shaun Wade is the third ranked cornerback in the entire class, and the 11th ranked player in the country. He committed to Ohio State on the night the Buckeyes would win the national championship, but he could very well be the hardest player for Urban Meyer to keep on board.

He is from Jacksonville, Florida, and the home state Gators will make a serious play for his services. If the Buckeyes can keep him in the class they will be getting an elite athlete with the perfect frame for a cornerback. At 6-2 185 lbs. he is everything that Urban Meyer and Kerry Coombs are looking for in their corners. He joins Josh Meyers as the other 5 star player in the class.

There is another cornerback in the fold, and his commitment is naturally much more stable. Marcus Williamson transferred to powerhouse IMG Academy, but he is from Westerville and his family is still there. He is the 10th ranked corner in the class, and just received an invite to Nike’s prestigious The Opening camp after being named the MVP of the defensive backs at the Orlando regional.

Keeping these two in the class would give the Buckeyes a spectacular duo at the cornerback position, and pairing them with Jordan Fuller’s 2016 commitment would mean a wealth of talent at a position that is a serious need over the next few years.

Ohio State is also in heavily on Pittsburgh’s Lamont Wade and California’s Darnay Holmes. Both of those player are ranked in the top 40 of 247‘s player rankings.
