2017 Ohio State Recruiting Class Off To Spectacular Start
By Dillon Davis
Clark will have the other member of his high school backfield with him in Columbus as running back Todd Sibley announced his intentions in April of last year. Sibley is currently ranked as the 15th ranked running back in the 2017 class by 247 Sports. He also holds offers from Michigan, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan State, and Oregon.
Urban Meyer and Tony Alford will likely look for one more running back to join this class. Trey Sermon and Najee Harris are two names to keep an eye on.
Sermon is from Georgia, and was on campus for a visit last week. The visit went well, but he has said he will not get serious about making a final decision until he takes official visits in the fall. It will be hard to get him away from Georgia, but Urban Meyer has had success in the Peach State. If he can secure one of Sermon’s official visits, the Buckeyes will be very much in play to land him. Sermon is ranked as the 14th best running back in the class.
Najee Harris is the number one ranked running back in the country, and is currently committed to Alabama. At 6-2, 220 pounds, Harris has the makings of a special player at the next level. He has made it no secret that he is not opposed to visiting other schools, and the Antioch, California native could make it to campus soon.
Harris has company in Alabama’s class as Cam Akers has also given his verbal commitment to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. Akers is the second ranked back in the class, and could potentially steer Harris away from Alabama. Given the proximity, and the need at the position, USC could be the favorite if he decides to decommit from Alabama. USC does have a commitment from Stephen Carr, who is a top 5 running back in his own right.
It is hard to gauge where Ohio State sits with him until they can get him on campus. If and when that happens, you can expect the Buckeyes to move up his list.
Akers, himself, will get a run from from the Buckeyes. Despite the success that Alabama running backs have had under Nick Saban, it is hard to believe that the two highest ranked backs will commit to the same program. Akers is from Mississippi, so proximity could make him the most likely of the duo to remain committed.
