2017 Ohio State Recruiting Class Off To Spectacular Start
By Dillon Davis
The 2016 class hasn’t been in the books for a month yet, but the art of recruiting is an endless cycle. Urban Meyer has made it very clear that it is a year-long obligation, and the way he and his staff embrace that grind is a big reason why the Ohio State program continues to reel in huge class after huge class.
Much was made about the 2016 class and it possibly being Meyer’s best ever at Ohio State. While recruiting classes can’t truly be evaluated until a few years after the fact, it has the makings of a special one for the Buckeyes.
That is old news in the world of recruiting, though, as eyes have already shifted to the 2017 class. Meyer will face a bit of a numbers crunch in this class as scholarships will be limited. But that hasn’t stopped him from jumping out to an amazing start with just under a year left until National Signing Day.
It remains to be seen just how many spots are available in this class. The Buckeyes will have 6
seniors graduating this year, and there are always medical hardships and transfers that free up more spots. Unlike last year, the Buckeyes won’t be facing a mass exodus of underclassmen. Raekwon McMillan is a legitimate candidate to forego his final year, and Gareon Conley could play his way into favorable draft stock. Past that there aren’t really any realistic candidates for early entry.
The class currently stands at 11 commitments, although plenty can change between now and signing day. Here is a look at some of the marquee names of the class, as well as some of the names that will be high on the coaching staff’s list as they pursue another top class.
