Ohio State Recruiting: Your 2016 Buckeyes Class
By Dillon Davis
Malcolm Pridgeon- Nassau Community College
Size: 6’8″- 303 lbs.
Position: OT (#3 JUCO OT, 4 stars)
Pridgeon is a name that a lot of Buckeye fans might not be familiar with, but will hear a lot about as the season gets closer.
As a junior college transfer, Pridgeon has not gotten nearly as much attention as the traditional high school recruits of this year’s class. That, by no means, should devalue what his signing could potentially mean for the Buckeyes.
Pridgeon came out of high school with very little fanfare, and decided to take the junior college rout to develop himself early on in his career. The move has paid huge dividends for him as he earned more than 30 offers from a “who’s who” list of programs across the country.
After narrowing his decision down to Baylor and Ohio State, he committed to the Buckeyes today.
What the Buckeyes are getting is a mammoth individual who could come in and play right away. With two years of post-high school football already under his belt, he holds a unique advantage over some. He certainly looks the part as well, as his frame is everything a coach could want in a tackle.
Simply put, the coaching staff offered him for a reason. Urban Meyer finds himself in a bit of a numbers crunch for this year and next. With so few spots available in this class, and eyes set on another monster class in 2017, Pridgeon would not have been considered if the staff didn’t think he could come in and help immediately.
With both tackle spots open this season, he will have plenty of opportunity to earn a starting job. He has 3 years to play 2 of them, and it might be a safe bet to assume he’ll start the clock in 2016.
