Ohio State Recruiting: Your 2016 Buckeye Class, Part 2
By Dillon Davis
Rodjay Burns- Trinity (Louisville, KY)
Size: 6’2″- 175 lbs.
Position: CB (#72 CB, 3 stars)
Burns was committed to staying home and going to Louisville since March, but an offer from the Buckeyes in December changed everything. That offer came just before the dead period began for coaches and recruits, but once communications opened back up, an official visit was quickly set up.
It didn’t take long after the conclusion of that visit for Burns to leave the Louisville class and become a Buckeye.
Burns split time on both sides of the ball at Trinity, and at this point in his career, may be a more polished receiver than he is at defensive back. He is going to play in the secondary for the Buckeyes, though, and it is going to take some time for him to fully acclimated to position full-time.
His combination of size and speed would make him a special type of cornerback, if he can develop the necessary technique to go with it. That size is also the ideal frame for a safety. Where he ultimately ends up could have a lot to do with what happens around him, and where the best track for him to make an impact opens up.
Stop me if you have heard this before: Burns’ aggressiveness and speed make him a prime candidate for a spot on special teams. Much like Jahsen Wint, he could find his niche there while figuring out exactly where he fits into the defense.
