All Time Buckeye Greats: Through The Woody Hayes Era
Jim Stillwagon is the third “Super Soph” and the fourth member of the 1968 Champion Buckeyes on the list. Stillwagon was a nose guard who would drop back to linebacker on occasion. He was regarded of as one of the best defensive linemen of his era.
In his sophomore season Stillwagon was impressive stopping the run, but in 1969 he took his play to another level and he was selected as a first team All-American. And his senior season was even better.
In 1970, Stillwagon was named first team All-American for the second time. He won the Outland Trophy awarded to the best interior lineman in the country, and was the first ever Lombardi Award winner as the best lineman or linebacker in the nation.
Stillwagon was selected to the Ohio State All-Century Team, Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame, and the College Football hall of Fame.
Jim Stillwagon played five years in the Canadian Football League. He was a three time all star and was runner up for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award in 1972.
