Ohio State’s best bowl games since 2000
#6 2006 Fiesta Bowl
Notre Dame has always been a target for the Big Ten to add to their conference. The Fighting Irish are located in the middle of Big Ten country, and for years have had annual match-ups against teams like Michigan, Michigan State and others, but never have played regularly against the Buckeyes.
This drought ended with the 2006 Fiesta Bowl when Jim Tressel went up against Charlie Weis in Arizona. Dublin, Ohio native Brady Quinn was the quarterback at Notre Dame, and this added another element of interest to the game aside from his football ability. Buckeye linebacker A.J. Hawk was dating his sister.
It was an afternoon of big plays from Ohio State’s offense, as Ted Ginn Jr. scored on a 68-yard end around, and a 56 yard touchdown pass from Troy Smith. Santonio Holmes also had an 85-yard touchdown catch. Running back Antonio Pittman contributed with a 60-yard touchdown that sealed the deal.
