Ohio State’s best bowl games since 2000
#8 2004 Alamo Bowl
The Alamo Bowl is not regarded as being a prestigious bowl. It matches up an average team from the Big Ten against an average team from the Big 12. But anytime Ohio State wins by 26 in a bowl game, it’s a solid performance.
The Buckeyes came into the game ranked 7-4, and were without starting quarterback Troy Smith who had been suspended for accepting money from a booster. Justin Zwick was benched in favor of Smith after losing three straight Big Ten conference games earlier in the year, but managed to lead the Buckeyes to an impressive win over Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys were coached by Les Miles and could not keep up with the many weapons on Ohio State’s offense. Receivers Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez had big days for the Buckeyes, and the Silver Bullet defense shut out Oklahoma State until allowing a rush TD at the end of the game.
Ohio State finished the season 20th in the AP poll.
