Eddie George

Eddie George is one of the biggest fan favorites in the history of the Buckeyes. However, it didn’t start out that way. Ohio State was loaded at the tailback position when he arrived in Columbus. With the talent in front of him and his problems holding onto the ball, he was relegated to third string tailback in his freshman and sophomore seasons. But in his junior year he showed why he had been a highly coveted recruit.

Finally winning the starting job at tailback in 1994, George rushed for 1,442 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He also had a 200 yard rushing game against Michigan State. And the best was yet to come.

In his senior season, George was almost unstoppable. He rushed for 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns. George had a 200 yard rushing game against Washington and a school record 314 yards against Illinois.

After his outstanding senior season, George was selected as a first team All-American and became the first Buckeye to win the Heisman Trophy since Archie Griffin.

Eddie George finished his career with 44 rushing touchdowns, and his 3,768 rushing yards is second only to Archie Griffin.
