Buckeyes’ Senior Day: A Special Day For A Special Class!
Adolphus Washington was a highly recruited defensive end coming out of high school and it looked like that would be the position he would excel at in college as well. A minor injury in his Sophomore season changed everything. After Joey Bosa stepped in at his defensive end position, Washington was moved to defensive tackle. And boy is he a good one!
Last season he performed well as a nose tackle, but with the graduation of Michael Bennett, Washington has moved to the three technique to take advantage of his athleticism. He has improved game by game and is becoming a dominant force in the middle.
Tommy Schutt and Joel Hale were both highly rated defensive tackles in high school but both have been plagued by injuries throughout their careers. Schutt, Urban’s first recruit at Ohio State, has finally become the starting nose tackle in his senior year. Hale, a fifth year senior, has moved back from the offensive side of the ball and is now Schutt’s backup.
These three players have been very important to the Buckeye defense that is ranked in the top ten nationally in total defense. If they keep up their great play it might be two championships in a row.
