Week 8- Illinois

It was most likely difficult for the Buckeyes to concentrate leading into their game against Illinois, as they would play Michigan State the following week. The Spartans had ended Ohio State’s national title dreams just a season earlier in the Big Ten Championship game. The Buckeyes entered the game ranked 13th, dropping one spot after their overtime win at Penn State.

They would not be upset by the Fighting Illini however, and cruised to another victory under the lights in Ohio Stadium.

J.T. Barrett was limited in the game while still recovering from his MCL sprain that he suffered just a week earlier. He still managed to throw for two touchdowns in the first half. Cardale Jones would start the second half, not only to let Barrett recover, but also because Ohio State was leading the game 31-0 at halftime.

Jones threw a perfectly placed 27 yard touchdown pass to Dontre Wilson, and also hit Michael Thomas for another score.

Fans left the cold stadium early as Ohio State won 55-17.
