Week 1: Navy

To open up the season, No. 5 Ohio State traveled to Baltimore to take on the United States Naval Academy. This game was truly a test for a very young and inexperienced Buckeye team. J.T. Barrett was making his first career start after Braxton Miller was injured just weeks before the season began. An offensive line that had lost four starters was getting their first shot at proving themselves.

Barrett went 12 for 15 and threw for 226 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown to wide receiver Devin Smith. Ezekiel Elliott shared carries with Curtis Samuel, Dontre Wilson and Jalin Marshall throughout the game, and only rushed for 44 yards.

Freshman Darron Lee scored the first Buckeye touchdown of the game and season on a 61-yard fumble return in the third quarter.

The Buckeyes ended up pulling away and winning 34-17. With the win they improved to 5-0 all time versus the Midshipmen.
