This was arguably the most surprising and strange game you will ever see. After the Buckeyes lost J.T. Barrett against Michigan, the national debate was whether or not Ohio State should drop in the Playoff rankings. The Bucks were ranked at No. 5 with a chance to prove their worth versus a No. 11 ranked, and favored, Wisconsin Badger team.

It was the Buckeye’s second trip to Lucas Oil Stadium for the Big Ten Championship, and this one would prove be much more fun than the first.

Cardale Jones threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns. He earned himself the nickname “12-gauge” from the enthusiastic television broadcaster Gus Johnson, in reference to his powerful arm that seemingly threw bullets to down-field receivers. Devin Smith made three great touchdown catches on deep passes from Cardale.

The Buckeye defense shut down the Badger offense and Heisman Trophy candidate Melvin Gordon to just 76 yards, his second-lowest total on the season. Leading into the game, many analysts were talking about how it would be impossible for the Buckeyes to even think about stopping him.

Urban seemed shocked about the defensive performance when he began celebrating with co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell before the game was even over.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt we’re one of the top four teams in America,” coach Meyer said after the game. He did everything he could in that game to ensure that the Buckeyes put on a dominant performance. Anything short of their 59-0 victory may not have been enough to earn them a spot in the College Football Playoff.
