2. Cris Carter

Cris Carter is one of the most polarizing figures in Ohio State football history. On one hand, he was one of the best high school recruits in the country when he was choosing schools and was eventually a consensus All-American for the Buckeyes in 1986.

On the other hand, he could have been so much better and could have been a first-round pick if it wasn’t for his off-the-field issues. He signed with a sports agent before his senior year and was ruled ineligible for that season. He has also talked about his drug use in college and how that affected his play.

Once he was taken in the supplemental draft by the Vikings, he was an instant star. He would finish his NFL career with 130 touchdown catches and has a long list of accolades. He made the Pro Bowl eight straight times, was named First-team All-Pro twice, and was a Second-team All-Pro member once.

Carter is in the Vikings’ Ring of Honor and has his number retired. He also was named to the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team. Carter is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and is one of the best receivers to ever play the game. It’s too bad that he could have been so much better though.

Still, his natural talent gets him this high on this list. The Buckeye to have the best NFL career though might be the best Ohio State football player ever.
