Ohio State Football top ten all-time passers in Buckeyes history
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State football career passing leader No. 2: C.J. Stroud
- 8,123 yards passing
- 85 TDs
- 12 INTs,
- 69.3 % completion
The most recent quarterback for the Ohio State football team is also one of the most prolific. We watched C.J. Stroud do some great things over the past two seasons, including being a Heisman Finalist in both years. He threw for 8,123 yards, 85 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions. He also completed a stellar 69.3% of his passes.
Stroud ended up being the right player to choose when it was a three-quarterback race in 2021. He used his great two seasons as a starter and parlayed that into being the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft this past April by the Houston Texans.
Stroud’s best game was his last one against Georgia. He showed that he was able to run the ball when he needed to as well as being the best pure passer in the 2022 draft class. Yet, his Ohio State football career will be viewed as complex.
While Stroud put up some gaudy numbers, he also lost almost every big game he played. He didn’t beat TTUN, lost to Oregon at home in 2021, and lost to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl this past season. You could argue the only big game he won was at Penn State last season.
It will take a little longer to see how fans view Stroud’s legacy. Right now it’s still to close to view things clearly. I think Stroud was great, but I’m not sure if I can view him as a winner. He won a lot of games against lesser competition.
The final player on this list is the other guy besides Smith who has an argument as the greatest quarterback in Ohio State history.
