Ohio State Football top ten all-time passers in Buckeyes history
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State football career passing leader No. 6: Greg Frey
- 6,316 yards passing
- 37 TDs
- 39 INTs
- 53% completion
I know not a lot of people have heard of Greg Frey, but they should. He is one of only two quarterbacks in Ohio State football history to have three seasons of 2,000+ yards passing. He finished his career with 6,316 yards passing to go along with 37 touchdowns and 39 interceptions.
While Frey put up decent passing numbers, he was part of the worst stretch of losing the Buckeyes have had in the last 40 years. He had just a 16-14 record as a starter when John Cooper was just getting started after the firing of Earle Bruce.
Frey also completed just 53% of his passes, so he was definitely part of the reason for losing. To be fair to him though, he wasn’t part of a massive passing attack. The offenses were different back in the 80s. He was still good enough to be a top-six passer in Ohio State history.
Most people won’t remember Frey because of the lack of winning. That’s unfortunate, but true. He went on to play in the World League of American Football and the Arena Football League following his Ohio State football career. He now calls Ohio high school football games.
The next person on this list is the quarterback you think of the most when you think of the 90s.
