Ohio State Football top ten all-time passers in Buckeyes history
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State football career passing leader No. 7: Steve Bellisari
- 5,878 yards passing
- 35 TDs
- 29 INTs
- 50.4% completion
Of the top ten passers in Ohio State football history, none of them had a worse competition percentage in his career than Steve Bellisari. He finished his Buckeye career completing just 50.4% of his passes and had just 35 touchdowns to 29 interceptions. But he did throw for 5,878 yards.
Bellisari started for the Buckeyes for three years at quarterback. Unfortunately, he didn’t do much winning for the Buckeyes in those three seasons. Ohio State went just 21-15 in the three years he led the offense. At Ohio State, that’s not anywhere good enough.
John Cooper got fired in Bellisari’s junior season and then Jim Tressel took over for his senior season. Of course, we all know that the Buckeyes won the national championship the year after Bellisari left Ohio State when Craig Krenzel led the team over Miami.
Bellisari had a pretty forgettable career, to be honest. He never really took control of the offense and led pretty average Buckeye teams. These were teams that didn’t get any Ohio State football fans excited. He just helped bridge the Cooper era into the Tressel era.
The next quarterback on this list is the first one to surpass the 6,000-yard mark for his career.
