Three other programs the Big Ten should poach
By Ryan Stano
Adding Florida State would be a big move for the Big Ten
Of the three programs I’ve listed so far, Florida State would be the least likely to be poached by the Big Ten. If anything, they might try to join the SEC. That would make more geographic sense and allow them to keep some regional rivalries intact.
But this would be a great move for the Big Ten if they were able to swing it. Adding a big brand school in the state of Florida would give them a southeast TV market that they have longed for, and it would open up recruiting in the state of Florida to all members of the Big Ten.
Do I think this has a good shot of happening? Not entirely. But it’s also not farfetched either. The ACC is not in a great position now. The Alliance is clearly not something that mattered to the Big Ten. That’s why it was only a “handshake” agreement instead of one put in writing.
From an Ohio State football (and basketball) perspective, all of these additions would be good for them. It gives the Buckeyes more opportunities to play high-level competition and enhance their resume for the College Football Playoff or the NCAA Tournament.
A lot still has to happen in the world of college athletics. USC and UCLA will not be the last dominos to fall. There are a lot of programs scrambling right now to solidify their positions in the college sports landscape. There will be a lot of phone calls being made the rest of the summer.
I can’t wait to see what happens for the rest of the offseason.
