Ohio State Football: 3 members of the 2020 recruiting class who are critical
By Ryan Stano
No one thought that Luke Wypler was going to start this past season. He was thrust into the starting center role after Harry Miller went down with an injury in the preseason. Wypler never relinquished the role and became a pretty solid center for most of the season.
Wypler now will be the starting center again next season. The reason why he is so critical to this team is because of the position he plays. The center sets the tone for the rest of the offensive line. They take after him when it comes to mentality and toughness.
This offensive line wasn’t very tough against TTUN. In fact, they were pretty darn soft. Wypler has to instill some toughness into his teammates so that they can win the line of scrimmage against better teams. In the two losses, the Buckeyes got beat easily up front.
Wypler was solid in 2021. He wasn’t good, but he wasn’t bad either. Now that he knows he’s going to be the starting center, his offseason should be very strong. He should be ready to go starting next season right away. He should come in a much stronger, better player.
All three of these players have a critical role to play in the success of the Buckeyes next season. None of these guys are likely to leave early for the NFL Draft, so they should help Ohio State in 2023 too. But 2022 comes first, and that’s where everyone’s focus is.
