Ohio State Football: The 3 players you need to know vs. Minnesota
By Alex Austin
Ohio State needs to make Minnesota one dimensional, and that will come by taking away the passing game
Last year, the Ohio State passing defense was not good. In fact, they were really bad. That is something that Kerry Coombs will have worked all offseason on and had a full summer camp to implement improvements. The player who most needs to step up if the Buckeyes are to be successful this season is Sevyn Banks.
Against Minnesota, Sevyn Banks will line up against the top Minnesota wide receiver throughout the night. Due to the top players leaving for the NFL and others being injured, the depth at the wide receiver position is limited.
If Banks is the type of lockdown corner he showed flashes of, he should be able to force Minnesota to abandon the pass. If that happens the Buckeyes will be able to tee off on Ibrahim and the running game.
This will be a big test for Ohio State’s improvement in the secondary. This is a game they should be able to dominate which will give them the confidence needed against better passing attacks. Banks has the talent to become a corner like Damon Arnette, but will have to show it here first.
