Another big blowout against That Team Up North for the Buckeyes

There has been a lot made about Michigan having a renewed focus on The Game this year. Jim Harbaugh has said his team will “win or die trying” this year when they face the Buckeyes. There have been outlets saying that it is now or never (remember when the same thing was said in 2019?) and that everything is lining up for a Michigan victory. Players for the Maize and Blue are thinking about Ohio State early and often as they prepare to finally end the streak. At the end of the day, none of this matters.

I am happy to see Michigan finally take a little ownership in this rivalry and try and do something about it. That’s great. It’s good for the rivalry, both teams, and the fan bases. What I don’t get is why this mentality is viewed as the only thing Michigan needed.

Ohio State has been preparing for The Game like this for decades. The players know as soon as they step on campus that they better do everything they can to beat That Team Up North. This is a prerequisite at Ohio State. Losing to the Wolverines and winning the National Championship would be a hollow season.

So why is Michigan taking it seriously suddenly putting them in the stratosphere of the Buckeyes? Ohio State is faster, stronger, deeper, better coached, and smarter than the players up north. That will be on full display again this year when Ohio State “hangs 100 on them“. But seriously, Ohio State wins by 20+ again.
