Why Ohio State is better than most of Swinney’s top 10
By Zane Harris
#9: Coastal Carolina
The first team that Dabo claimed was better than the Ohio State Buckeyes were the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina had a great season in which they finished with a regular-season record of 11-0.
They finished first in the Sun Belt and took care of every game they scheduled. They beat two ranked teams this season. The first being Lousiana, who finished the season ranked 19th. The other was BYU who finished the season ranked 16th.
Coastal Carolina would miss the playoffs and the committee decided that they were the 12th best team in the country. They will be facing off against Liberty in the Cure Bowl. A game in which they are favored to win by 6.5 points.
When looking at the advanced team stats, it makes it very clear that Ohio State has had a better season than Coastal Carolina.
Ignoring the Playoff rankings, Ohio State still outranks Coastal Carolina in the AP poll. In the AP Poll, Ohio State is ranked 3rd while Coastal Carolina was ranked 9th.
Along with this, Ohio State’s strength of schedule was ranked 67th while Coastal Carolina’s strength of schedule was ranked 79th. Ohio State had the 4th ranked strength of record while Coastal Carolina’s strength of record was ranked 8th.
