No.2: Kerry Coombs, defensive coordinator

Kerry Coombs left Ohio State two seasons ago to help build his resume to become a head coach. He came back to Ohio State this offseason to do the same thing. After going to the Tennessee Titans and essentially receiving his PHD in coaching, Coombs comes back to lead the entire Buckeye defense.

I would not expect Coombs to be in Columbus very long. When Luke FIckell’s name was mentioned for the Ohio State job, Coombs was already being rumored as a candidate for the Cincinnati Bearcats head coaching position.

And with Fickell more than likely set to take over a big time program next offseason, I would expect those Coombs to the University of Cincinnati rumors stir up once more.

Even if Fickell stays at UC, Coombs could be inline for another job if the Buckeye defense performs like it did this past season. Ryan Day better have another coordinator hire in the back of his mind as the season rolls along.

No. 3 Brian Hartline, wide receivers coach

Brian Hartline is only in his third season as an assistant coach. For what he lacks in experience, he more than makes up for with how well prepared he coaches his unit. Ohio State receivers have flourished under his guidance and are more NFL ready when the leave the program than ever before.

He was also ranked as 247Sports top recruiter in the nation for the 2020 recruiting cycle. An extremely prestigious honor among college coaches. Hartline is killing it both on the recruiting trail and as a leader within his unit on the team. Rumor has it that he may also have the added title of passing game coordinator for the 2020 Ohio State football season.

Next. Master Teague could become a star in 2020. dark

And if Hartline continues down the path that he is currently on, I believe a power five conference head coaching job will be waiting for him when he is ready.
