No.2 Donovan Edwards, running back

Donovan Edwards would be a major get for Ohio State and running back coach Tony Alford. After having missed on the highly rated backs for the 2019 and 2020 recruiting cycles, it is imperative that Alford can land a big catch in 2021 to prove that he is an elite recruiter. And Edwards might be the biggest one of them all outside of Camar Wheaton, the No. 6 ranked prospect in the country.

Edwards comes in as the No. 2 ranked running back in the class by 247Sports and is obviously a major target for Ohio State. Ryan Day made a trip to West Bloomfield Michigan last week and spent they day at his high school. Tony Alford has been rumored to have been up to Michigan to see Edwards as well over the past week.

With Edwards the Buckeyes would be getting a home run hitting, tough nosed running back who has a lot of the same traits JK Dobbins possesses. If Alford and Day can convince Edwards that watching Dobbins last season would be a glimpse into his future then the commitment of Edwards could be coming soon for the Buckeyes.

With a pretty defined group of top-tier running back recruits in 2021 that includes four-star prospects Evan Pryor, Lovasea Carrol, Corey Kiner, Cody Brown and five-star recruit Will Shipley, the Buckeyes need of obtaining one of them is major. But If Ohio State can get its main target in Edwards, then we should not need to worry about Tony Alford’s recruiting abilities anymore.
