Ohio State Football: Week 12 college football power rankings
8. Ohio State
Ranking Last Week: 9
Week 11 Result: Win @ Michigan State 26-6
Upcoming Week: Away at Maryland
I’m not sure whether having your punter being responsible for more points than your offense midway through the game is a good thing or a bad thing but it was a reality for the Buckeyes on Saturday. Drue Chrisman was absolutely outstanding in the win against Michigan State landing punts on the 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 yard lines in the game.
All of this came after Chrisman started the day off with the shortest punt in the history of Ohio State football, one that went four yards. It was an ugly game where neither offense could get much going but there were positives for the Buckeyes.
The defense looked much better holding a Michigan State team to just 6 points on the day. The running game improved for the second straight week as well as Mike Weber ran for 100 yards and a touchdown on the number one ranked run defense in the country coming into the game.
This coming after JK Dobbins ran for over 100 yards in a game versus Nebraska. The Buckeyes will look to continue to improve with a match up against a dysfunctional Maryland team before the biggest game of the season against TTUN.
7. Oklahoma
Ranking Last Week: 6
Week 11 Result: Win vs. Oklahoma State 48-47
Upcoming Week: Home vs. Kansas
Another week another shootout in a game featuring the Oklahoma Sooners. The lowest scoring game of the season for Oklahoma came in week 4 with a 28-21 win over Army.
Since that game the Sooner point totals have been as follows: 66, 45, 52, 51, 51, and 48. That is an average of 52.2 points per game. Those are astounding numbers and if I told the average fan that Oklahoma was 4-0 after the win against Army, one would assume that the Sooners are undefeated.
Too bad their defense is about as good as stopping offenses as swiss cheese is at stopping air. Over that same stretch the Sooners have given up 35.8 points per game including 48 in a loss to Texas in week 6.
This Oklahoma team better gear up because after facing an always bad Kansas team, they have to try to stop the 10th best scoring offense in the country in West Virginia.
