4. Michigan

Rank Last Week: 5

Week 9 Result: Win @ Michigan State 21-7

Upcoming Week: Bye

Jim Harbaugh got his second win over the Spartans and it was arguably the biggest win in his tenure as head coach of the Wolverines. Michigan now has consectutive wins over Wisconsin and Michigan State.

It was largely thanks to their number one ranked defense as the Spartans were only able to muster 7 points and 94 yards of total offense.

The Wolverines get a bye week before playing the Penn State Nittany Lions in Ann Arbor, a team that was defeated by Michigan State and then tested by Indiana the week later.

A win over Penn State will put Michigan in the driver’s seat in the Big Ten East.

3. Notre Dame

Rank Last Week: 3

Week 9 Result: Bye

Upcoming Week: Home vs Navy

Notre Dame enjoyed a bye week after a close call against Pitt last week. This upcoming week the Irish are going to need that rest as they go up against the always tough Navy rushing attack as they look to get back to dominance in the college football world.

Dominance or not, Notre Dame will make the college football playoff if they win out the rest of the way. That’s very likely considering the final five opponents are Navy, Northwestern, Florida State, Syracuse, and USC.
