Ohio State Football: Week 6 unit grades vs. Indiana
2nd Quarter:
Offense:
Wow, what a spectacular beginning to the second quarter with a couple of nice runs setting up an absolute dime from Dwayne Haskins to Johnnie Dixon in the back of the end zone. More of that please.
Then what did Ohio State do to follow-up an amazing drive ending with a spectacular touchdown? Commit their second turnover of the game by way of an interception.
Feels like I’m in the Penn State game all over again. Just kidding, the Buckeyes actually knew how to move the ball in this one.
The defensive play of the Buckeyes wasn’t good but it was back to regularly scheduled programming for Dwayne Haskins and the Buckeye offense ending in a touchdown pass to Paris Campbell streaking across the middle of the field.
If you give Dwayne Haskins a short field, you might as well forget about it. Even in a Penn State game that they struggled in, when the offense got a short field they scored. This one ended in the third touchdown pass of the day for Haskins.
Grade: B+
Defense:
As impressive as the Buckeye offense was coming out of the gates in the 2nd quarter, the defense was just as disappointing again showing a lot of weaknesses, now in the passing game. That finally led to a touchdown for the Hoosiers.
It was baffling to me in this game how a secondary that looked good against Penn State could look so bad against Indiana at home. Nevertheless, the Hoosiers gashed the Buckeyes for the second time in this quarter ending in another touchdown.
The Buckeyes managed to make up the for the bad defensive play by creating a turnover of their own recovering a fumble in Indiana territory.
Just as the Buckeye offense got back to regularly scheduled programming, so did Indiana’s. But, good for the Buckeyes, the drive only ended in a Hoosier field goal so that a plus, I guess.
Grade: C
Special Teams:
Not much to report in the special teams department, and that’s good. Because if there aren’t any disasters that means the special teams is doing its job.
Grade: A+
