Ohio State Recruiting: Your 2016 Buckeye Class, Part 2
By Dillon Davis
Drue Chrisman- LaSalle (Cincinnati, OH)
Size: 6’2″- 198 lbs.
Position: P (#1 P, 3 stars)
Cam Johnston has been great for the Buckeyes, and he probably doesn’t get the appreciation that he deserves from Buckeye Nation.
His value is certainly not lost on Urban Meyer, who will never overlook the importance of strong special teams play.
With just two guaranteed years left with Johnston, punter was a position that Meyer really needed to address, and to find the guy he could groom(Andy?) to take over for Johnston. Luckily for him, the best punter in the nation happened to be in the Queen City.
In Jim Tressel’s runaway favorite signing of the class, Drue Chrisman became a Buckeye on May 5th of 2015. Having only had an offer from Ohio State for a little over a month, it did not take long for Chrisman to figure out where his heart was.
As a practicing mormon, BYU posed a legitimate threat to gaining his services. He also had offers from Florida State and UCLA.
With a year or two to learn under Johnston, Chrisman will only get better as he perfects his craft. While all Buckeyes fan will hope that he doesn’t have to be utilized too much in his career, the punter position is in good hands for the foreseeable future.
