Some thought recruiting would take a hit when Urban Meyer turned over the Ohio State football program to Ryan Day but nothing has changed.

I’ll first take a look at offensive players who joined the Ohio State football team this year and ones committed in the 2021 class. It’s an impressive bunch.

Not surprisingly Ryan Day was able to recruit outstanding quarterbacks since taking over as head coach, but landing the three he has is off the chart.

Jack Miller was the No. 13 PRO QB in the 2020 class but his ranking dropped because of injuries. He could be the steal of the recruiting class.

C.J. Stroud shot up in the rankings and finished as the No. 2 PRO QB and Kyle McCord is the No. 3 PRO QB in this year’s class. The best quarterback coach in the country should have fun with these three guys.

Last year Tony Alford missed out on highly ranked running backs but may have found an undervalued gem in Miyan Williams. Recently he added graduate transfer Tre Sermon who rushed for over 2,000 yards during his three years at Oklahoma and will be able to contribute immediately.

Coach Alford has received commitments from the No. 6 RB in the 2021 class Evan Pryor and the No. 2 RB TreVeyon Henderson. It looks as though the backfield is full and talented doesn’t it?

When it comes to receivers, all you have to do is look at the recruiting rankings in the 247Sports Composite to see why other coaches have to be envious of Ryan Day.

2020:

  • Julian Fleming (1), No. 3 overall player
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba (5), No. 28
  • Gee Scott Jr. (10), No. 65
  • Mookie Cooper (16), No. 91

Two more top 100 players in the 2021 class:

  • Marvin Harrison (8), No. 57
  • Jayden Ballard (12), No. 72

Brian Hartline may be the best receivers coach and recruiter in the country and is loading up his unit with talent.

Coach Greg Strudrawa is loading up the offensive line as well:

2020 recruits:

  • OT Parris Johnson 6ft. 7, 290 pounds
  • OC Luke Wypler 6 ft. 2, 285
  • OT Trey Leroux 6 ft. 8, 355
  • OT Grant Toutant 6 ft. 7, 320
  • OG Josh Fryar 6 ft. 5, 305
  • OG Jakob James 6 ft. 5, 285

2021:

  • Donovan Jackson 6 ft. 4, 308
  • Ben Christman 6 ft. 5, 299

Johnson, Wypler and Jackson are top 100 players and Christman is No. 115.

Two tight end recruits, Joe Royer (2020) and Sam Hart (2021), are listed at 6 ft. 5, 225 pounds. Transfer Corey Rau is 6 ft. 4, 248.

Next. A look back at the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. dark

Ryan Day has filled every position unit up nicely in his short time as head coach. Urban Meyer certainly didn’t leave the cupboard bare but coach Day knew he had to re-stock the shelves and has certainly done so.
