There are always players who choose not to participate in workouts at the NFL Combine. If one is projected as a top 2 draft pick why would he?

Every year players decide not to participate in drills at the NFL Combine. Pundits often get on them if they aren’t recovering from an injury, but often it’s a good decision by the player.

Two players made great decisions this year.

Joe Burrow and Chase Young have decided to skip workouts at the NFL Combine. Why wouldn’t they, they don’t have anything to prove.

Those who wonder why should have followed college football last season.

Burrow had arguably the best season a college QB ever had. He completed 76.3 percent of his passes for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns. He also ran for 368 yards and 5 scores and caught a TD pass.

The QB won every award he was up for including the Heisman Trophy. Oh yeah, he also led LSU to the National Championship.

Young registered 46 tackles, 21 for loss, and had 16.5 sacks. He mopped up defensive awards and was instrumental in the Buckeyes’ run to the CFP.

It is important for most players to go through the drills at the NFL Combine. If they impress a GM and move up in the draft it can make for a huge payday.

But if Burrow and Young would have had great workouts their draft stock wouldn’t have improved. A poor one could make them slide in the draft.

Buckeyes' 2020 offensive line will be best ever. dark. Next

With that being the case, why work out in shorts and a T-shirt when you have a great body of work wearing pads on Saturday. And if the Cincinnati Bengals pass on Burrow and the Washington Redskins don’t pick Young because they didn’t work out at the Combine, the two guys will be better off by being chosen by functional organizations.
