Urban Meyer’s name has been linked to head coaching jobs around the country since he announced his retirement, but Ohio State fans should stop caring.

Big-time college football programs like USC and Notre Dame have been linked to Urban Meyer since Meyer announced he was handing the reins over to Ryan Day last season, even though neither of them currently have vacant spots, but I think we need to stop caring about these rumors.

These rumors upset some Ohio State fans while Florida fans are saying, “Welcome to our world,” after Meyer stepped down due to health reasons in 2010 but then became head coach at Ohio State after the 2011 season.

I think, however, that Buckeye fans should not care whether Meyer takes another coaching job or stays at his TV job at Fox.

This is not a slap in the face or a dig at Meyer by no means. Meyer guided the Buckeyes to a 2014 national championship, two College Football Playoff appearances, three Big Ten Conference championships, a 7-0 record against the team up north, and an 83-9 overall record.

I am extremely thankful for the memories that Meyer brought me and to Ohio State but he left us in a great place and it’s time to stop worrying about the past.

The Buckeyes now have one of the best young coaches in the country in Ryan Day who has one of the smartest offensive minds in football. Ohio State’s offense is currently one of the top units in the country, averaging 46 points per game, and over 501.7 points per game. The offense also has two Heisman candidates in quarterback Justin Fields and running back J.K. Dobbins.

Ohio State is clicking on all cylinders right now and the country is noticing but Day is setting up his team for a bright future too as the Buckeyes’ 2020 recruiting class is No. 4 overall with two five-stars, currently, and 11 four-stars, according to 247Sports. Additionally, even though it’s early, they currently have the No. 3 2021 recruiting class.

Many thought there could a drop-off with Meyer leaving but that is not happening so far as the Buckeyes are producing on the field and in the recruiting world.

Yes, if Meyer gets a job he will start going head-to-head against the Buckeyes in recruiting but Ohio State is one of the top-three easiest sells in the country alongside Alabama and Clemson due to their recent success and exposure.

USC has not been relevant since Pete Carroll left and Notre Dame hasn’t won a national title since 1988, those are much tougher sells that The Ohio State University.

Yes, I think that Meyer can find success anywhere he goes but the Buckeyes are already atop the college football world and don’t need to put in the extra work to get there like Meyer would have to do at those other schools.

Again, I love Urban Meyer and I believe that he is one of the best college football coaches of all-time. Ohio State was lucky to have him after the great Jim Tressel era, but the Buckeyes are just as lucky to have Ryan Day now. Ohio State certainly has a bright future, so it’s time to stop worrying about if Meyer coaches somewhere else or if he stays retired. Let’s enjoy what we have.
