With the craziness that has surrounded the Ohio State football team this year, there is now another controversy looming over the program. The health of Urban Meyer has been talked about more and more as the season has progressed.

Camera’s have caught Meyer on the sideline visibly in pain rubbing the side of his temple. The story goes that Meyer has a cyst that is pushing on his brain that flares up when he is under stress.

He had it drained four years ago when it started causing him problems. The question is how serious is this medical issue?

One of the stipulations made public when Meyer took the Ohio State job was he had to take care of himself. Meyer signed a contract made by his children.

They saw how his health was affected at Florida and wanted to make sure it never happened again. If this is a big deal, and Meyer is just downplaying it, should he look at taking a medical leave or retiring from coaching?

I don’t have any medical background or any information on how serious the cyst is, or how much it is effecting Meyer on a day-to-day basis, but if it does appear to flare up due to stress and that is a huge cause for concern. Even as I’ve watched him on the sideline I can tell Urban is not fully himself this year.

There has been a lot going on and off the field, but it seems to be more than just stress from the job. Is it time the university, players and fans to give back to Meyer after everything he has given to us?

Urban Meyer has completely brought the Ohio State football program back into the powerhouse it once was. Year in and year out the Buckeyes are a top team and have an incredible recruiting class.

He has done a lot for the program including winning a national title. It would be a huge loss to the program, but at what point does a man’s health become more important than winning. Everybody knows coach Meyer is a competitor but is it time someone steps in and saves Meyer from himself?
