Another question mark for one unit on the Ohio State football team. Is it cause for concern or is the O-line so strong coach Studrawa is just experimenting?

The offensive line situation appears to still be up in the air while the Ohio State football team is preparing for the 2018 season. It has been reported by multiple sources that left guard Michael Jordan has been seen getting reps at center. Should that give Buckeye fans cause for concern or is coach Studrawa just experimenting?

It could be looked at as a positive situation or a negative. Let’s first look at Jordan playing center from a glass half empty perspective.

That would mean senior Brady Taylor’s play is not up to the high standards Ohio State centers have set and redshirt freshman Josh Myers hasn’t progressed enough to fill the position. Not a comforting thought for Buckeye fans.

But what if the glass is half full?

Possibly there is so much talent and depth at the guard position coach Studrawa wants to get another one of those players on the field. That could be the case.

Right guard Brandon Bowen was performing well last season before he went down with an injury. When Demetrius Knox stepped in the Ohio State offense didn’t miss a beat. Possibly coach Stud wants to move one of them to the other side of the center.

Or possibly the O-line coach thinks other guys are ready to step in to play left guard.

Senior Malcolm Pridgeon, the No. 3 ranked JUCO tackle on the 2016 recruiting class, could be an option. Wyatt Davis, the No. 1 ranked guard in the 2017 class, may be the other.

Possibly it’s just a simple matter of moving Jordan to center to get the three best interior linemen on the field, regardless of where they have been playing. That would make sense.

However, quite possibly the line situation is fine and coach Studrawa is just experimenting. If Jordan performs well at the position, it would give coach Studrawa another option to fill the void at center if Taylor suffers an injury during the season.

It would be the best case scenario if the starting lineup is pretty much set and letting Jordan get some snaps at center is just to get him familiar with the position. That’s because it takes time for an offensive line to gel, and time isn’t on the Buckeyes side with the first game of the season less than three weeks away.

Next. Three potential upsets in 2018. dark

At the moment it’s hard to say if Jordan getting reps at center is a positive thing for the Buckeyes or if there is an issue at the position. We will find our in the next couple of weeks I’m sure.
